Who we are and why we are hiring…
⯈ Tournevie is a tool library and community project in Brussels. Our service works exactly like a regular library: in exchange for an annual membership fee of € 40, members get unlimited access to a wide range of quality tools to repair or renovate at home. We now have close to 600 active members, a great workshop in Molenbeek (Rue Saint-Joseph 20), and a healthy pool of about 20 volunteers.
⯈ We aim to expand our activities to other areas in Brussels. That’s why we are teaming up with Communa and the Ixelles municipality to build a new antenna in Rue Gray 200 in Ixelles, close to Flagey and Germoir. This street is already buzzing with activity at La Serre and Maison de la Récup, two abandoned building revitalized by Communa and their partners.
⯈ The new antenna will open this Summer on the ground floor of the Maison de la Récup. We are looking for a project coordinator who manages the day-to-day business of the lending desk. This person will take up a leadership role in setting up the antenna in the Ixelles neighbourhood, will perform outreach & communications, and take initiatives to develop and link up this community initiative with the area and its inhabitants.
Who we are looking for…
We are a horizontal, open organisation, with plenty of volunteer involvement from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In this context, our ideal candidate:
⯈ Is organized, creative, autonomous, and has a great sense of initiative
⯈ Has previous leadership experience in managing and coordinating volunteers, and/or collaborating with partners in the development of a quickly evolving project
⯈ Easily meets new people, inspires and supports volunteers; in short, has a good sense of humour and is able to act as a team player
⯈ Is able to communicate in English and French. Dutch is a solid bonus
⯈ Shows a strong involvement in Brussels, the development of its socio-economic fabric and the self-organisation of its citizens
Experience in DIY, tool repair, engineering and so on are a big plus, but not essential to do the job!
What you will be doing…
⯈ Coordinating and motivating volunteers involved in the project
⯈ Managing the inventory and organising opening hours of the tool library
⯈ Carrying out communication & outreach to the community in Ixelles and beyond
⯈ Managing the budget and associated administrative tasks
What we are offering you…
⯈ Time input: 3 days per week (0.6 FTE).
⯈ Duration: 2,5 year contract from mid-June 2018 onwards until January 2021, with a 3-month trial period.
⯈ Flexibility: Flexibility of working hours (might include some weekend or evenings) and locations possible (mainly in Ixelles). You can combine this with other (flexible) jobs or non-professional activities.
⯈ Remuneration: € 1440 brut / month & lunch vouchers.
⯈ Support: You’ll be working in an invigorating, dynamic and collaborative culture. You’ll get on-the-job training by the Tournevie crew in Molenbeek & work in close contact with Communa and others at La Serre & Maison de la Récup (Rue Gray 200).
